Apr 05 | Miriam (poem)
i have to teach my feet
how to touch the ground again
who we were was our world
but the dome around it has ruptured
to let The Chaos in
i dance to sanctify this day
the horse’s legs are broken
the rider looks like a child
from up here
he waves his arms at me
do i wave back?
all their swords will turn to shell
their bones will be salt
i dance to sanctify this horror
behind me the multitude waits
stunned
is this what we were promised?
is this what blessedness is?
the fire within me gives me pain
i am new
we are each other’s
we belong
to no-one
i dance to sanctify this joy
but all is quiet now
waves have fluttered over this finished story
something whispers, “hush,
it was only a dream.”
i dance to sanctify this heart
wild and awful
its beating wings are bursting forth
from my tambourine
i open my mouth
and bring forth flame
i dance to sanctify this love
